Traditionally, the concept of month-iversaries are an odd concept, at least for Advice by Amanda. But we were just too excited to NOT celebrate our first 90 days as Single Chicks Blog!
Like every good organization we chose to give ourselves a 90 day review of sorts. It’s been a whirlwind adventure for us so far. We finally have an editorial calendar planned out for the rest of the year so we can be more consistent with getting our beloved readers content. We had our first guest contributor (thanks Liz!) and are super excited to have a third voice sharing stories on here. We did some branding work and got ourselves a fancy new logo. But mostly, we’re just excited to start better connecting with our readers.
Our Evolution So Far
Brainstormed the “Single Chicks Blog” Name
This was almost a disaster. From sounding too cutesy to too porny, it took longer than expected to come up with a name we both liked and wouldn’t land us on the NSFW list of websites. (We had wanted to find a list of some of our more porn-tastic names but came up short. Instead we’ll leave you with a quote from Amanda about our search: “It’s shocking how many of our conversations I can search for “porn” and things come up.”)
Birth of a Logo
We were ok with not having a logo right away, until we claimed the @singlechicks_ handle on Twitter. Advice by Amanda created a quick logo with a chick and added the blog name and announced to How to with Courtney “I was tired of being an egg, so I guess we hatched.” That was our logo until Courtney and Amanda spent some time creating a concept and then turning over the graphic designing to a much more capable person on Fiverr.
Speaking of Twitter, we know we need to connect with you all more. That’s one of the areas we scored lowest on with our little self-review. We could say that we’re “really, really, really going to try much harder.” Though no one would ever believe that. What we are going to do is plan better and set more time aside to comment on the things we like and the people we find brilliant. And Amanda will be threatening Courtney’s life (per usual) if this doesn’t happen.*
In addition to our commitment to connect more often, we’re also planning on adding a few other features. Look out for posts celebrating and recognizing some of the more fun and bizarre holidays out there (we’ve had a few already, and hope you enjoyed them). Get excited for movie and book reviews – dissecting rom-coms and self-help books has long been a side hobby of ours. Finally, be on alert for #humpday and awesome posts from guest contributors.
Mostly though, THANK YOU for reading our stories. We hope you’re learning something from our adventures. At the very least, we hope we’ve given you something to laugh about!
*Don’t worry. Advice by Amanda threatens How to with Courtney pretty much every week for something or other. There’s absolutely no follow through though. No need to be alarmed.
